Floridians pull together to help each other after Irma's destruction. Florid

As an Oklahoma native, I have never felt more proud to call South Florida home. As devastating as Hurricane Irma was, it has also brought out the good in people in many ways. From airlines that added flights at the last hour to help with the evacuation efforts, to the people handing out "cofecito" in the long gas lines, the South Florida community came together.

Thank you to the neighbors who helped each other install hurricane shutters, and to all the volunteers before and after the storm. We love these examples of people coming together during tough times.

The University of Miami's mascot is an ibis, the last bird to leave before a hurricane and the first to return. We have returned and we will rebuild Florida together, to be even greater than it was before.
